LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Pre-distribution information

Chipata is a rural, high risk malaria area. With a very high 475 cases of malaria per 1,000 people, it has one of the highest malaria case levels in Eastern province.

Nets will be distributed to Home Based Care HIV/AIDS clients during planned home visits. This method of distribution also helps eliminate distribution costs.

Post-distribution information

The distribution was completed successfully as planned.

A post-distribution report will be added here shortly.

Follow-up surveys

These take place 6, 18, 30 and 42 months post-distribution. A survey of 50 households provides sample information on what proportion of nets continue to be used, if they are used correctly and the state of the nets.
