LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Pre-distribution information

The Health district of Diebougou in the south west of Burkina Faso is a permanent malaria transmission zone. 40,000 nets will be distributed just before the peak malaria season to achieve blanket coverage of all sleeping spaces in 69 villages. The health wards being targeted are: Bamako, Bapla, Bondigui, Communal, Dankoble, Diassara, Niceo and Tioyo.

The robust Red Cross and community health workers capacity in the district will enable a strong social mobilisation campaign. Every village will be visited pre-distribution and each head of household will receive 1 voucher for every 2 family members. The LLIN distribution will take place over 3 days with one extra day of 'catch up' when teams will revisit houses where vouchers were not redeeemed.

Post-distribution visits will assess and help with net hang-up to encourage and ensure high levels of net level.
