LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Two parishes, Tekwana and Kakoro, covering 12 villages in Kakoro sub-county will be the recipients of these nets. Nets will be distributed to all women and children under 15 in a close-to-blanket coverage. Kakoro is a high-risk malaria area. In 2006, 144,000 of 331,649 hospital cases were for malaria.

Tekwana's villages are: Bumusana, Petta, Tekwana, Bukomolo and Sogono.

The parishes covered by several related distributions of 6,180 and 2,220 nets are Kaitisya, Kadokolene, Kasajja, Kitoikawononi and Kanginima. A parish typically consists of 3-7 villages.

Natiki Health Focus Organsiation will carry out the distribution. Distributions will occur at the parish level on specified days at specific meeting locations, usually local schools.
