When: Jun 07

Nets: 5,200 LLINs

Distributed by His Nets

His Nets is a non-profit charity begun in 2005 to fight malaria especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. His Nets focus is distributing LLINs to those who need them most: pregnant women and families with children under 5. A non-denominational organization, His Nets makes no distinction as to ethnic or religious origin when distributing nets to those who need them most.

LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Distributed by  His Nets    His Nets

Ghana is badly affected by malaria. Three distributions of 1,700-1,800 LLINs each will take place in villages around Kumasi in the Ashanti region, Tamale/Yendi in the Northern region and Wenchi/Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo region. The final list of recipient villages is being established now and will be added here when complete.

Pregnant women and families with children under five are the target recipient group. There will also be blanket coverage of a number of orphanages. The education component of the distribution, a discussion of malaria and the use of nets, will be conducted in the tribal language of those receiving the nets.

The nets will be distributed by His Nets representatives, in cooperation with the Ghana Health Service and the All Africa Baptist Fellowship.
