LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Distributed by  Red Cross    Red Cross

This is one part of a three district distribution, in total covering 254 villages, in a rural, high risk malaria region.

Nets will be distributed for free to:
- All households with children under 5 and women of reproductive age. Households with more than 3 children will receive two nets.
- Schoolteachers, commune leaders, Bhuddist monks and nuns who will help promote key malaria messages
- The poorest of the poor in villages not specifically targeted.

Nets will be delivered to target villages by Red Cross volunteers and local health centre staff using project vehicles and motorbikes and with the cooperation of village leaders.

LLINs are new to Cambodia so information, education and communication materials will form part of the distribution activity.
