Fees per credit/debit card

Credit/debit card companies charge a fee to the seller when you buy something. This applies to all charities too when you make a donation. We think this is a shame. Each credit/debit card charges AMF a slightly different fee when a donation is made online.

The average fee is 2.35%

$100 donated buys...

Online donation Other donation* Across all donations
Donor gives $100.00 $100.00 $100.00
Fees $2.35 $0.00 $0.80
  $97.65 $100.00 $99.20
Bank interest** $1.10 $1.10 $1.10
UK Gift Aid** $2.85 $2.85 $2.85
Total $101.60 $103.95 $103.10

Therefore:

  • $100 donated online leads to $101.60 being used to buy nets
  • $100 donated by other means leads to $103.95 being used to buy nets
  • Overall, $100 donated leads to $103.10 being used to buy nets

We state on the website and elsewhere that '100% of the funds we receive buys nets'. This is indeed the case. We also believe donors may read this as '100% of my $100 buys nets' and through the above table aim to demonstrate that, overall, we buy more than $100 of nets with each $100 donation.

We recommend

For donations of $5,000 or more, bank transfer or check/cheque donations are preferred, assuming it is convenient for the donor to do so, to minimise fees.
