What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

The distribution will be in four areas, Chinotimba B, Chinotimba clinic, Mkhosana A and Mkhosana B, to people living with HIV/ AIDS, to children under 5 years and to pregnant women. 60% of deaths in these areas are due to malaria.

The distribution will be carried out by the Zimbabwe Red Cross through the Home Based Care (HBC) system already in place.
