Veto the 'Squito
"Veto the 'Squito" is a grassroots, non-partisan, non-sectarian, youth-led campaign aimed at saving millions of lives from being destroyed by malaria. Students aged from 6 to 21, along with their teachers, mentors and peers, are engaging their families and communities nationwide to raise both awareness about malaria and funds for mosquito nets to prevent malaria throughout Africa.
Veto the 'Squito is a member of the Malaria No More Network. It is being run by a coalition of leading youth action organizations, including Americans for Informed Democracy, Children for Children, and LOVE, HALLIE Foundation. LOVE, HALLIE is coordinating the overall campaign while Americans for Informed Democracy is reaching out to its members at colleges and universities across the country, and Children for Children has launched a Sweat for Nets initiative that is collaborating with Veto the 'Squito.
S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M.s (Students Working As Teammates To Engage Against Malaria) have been hosting activities nationwide to raise money for bed nets for their peers in many parts of Africa who are haunted by the threat of malaria every night. Elementary school children have hosted bake sales and lemonade stands, high school students have had their friends over for pajama parties and held car washes, and college students have hosted town hall meetings and film screenings.
