Modern Pentathlon and Biathle
Modern pentathlon combines swimming, running, shooting, fencing and riding and
has the distinction of being the first Olympic sport. There are national
federations in 90 countries on five continents. Biathle is a related discipline
which combines the two basic elements of Modern Pentathlon, running and
swimming.
"I am pleased to confirm the world modern pentathlon and biathle community will
have 5,000 people swimming in more than 100 countries as part of World Swim For
Malaria. This reflects the global nature of participation in modern pentathlon
and biathle and mirrors the global nature of this initiative.
We will involve the broader pentathlon and biathle family i.e. athletes, their
families, friends, colleagues and other young people. Our participation will be
on 18th September 2005 as we have plans to coincide our involvement with the
World Biathle Championships that will take place in Monaco. Although a little
earlier than the 3rd December date, a high profile celebrity event in Monaco
and the attendance of the world media to cover our contribution to World Swim
For Malaria will we hope provide further impetus to this extraordinary
initiative."
