LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

The nets will be distributed in the Kasane township in the Chobe district and in the villages of Plateau, Pandamatenga and Lesoma. These areas have a high prevalence of malaria. Up to 50% of clinic consultations are due to malaria. Flooding after the rainy season exacerbates the situation. Distribution will be to Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), pregnant women and children under 5 living in HBC project areas.

The nets will be distributed by The Botswana Red Cross via the existing Home Based Care (HBC) programme.
