Population Services International (PSI) is a not-for-profit organization which has been delivering products and services to improve health and save lives in the fields of malaria and other public health priority areas since the 1970's. Today, PSI is supporting Ministries of Health in 70 countries across the world.

LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Distributed by  PSI    PSI

PSI will use WSM LLINs to ensure the protection and full coverage of 22,500 children under five in the Batouri health district. The net distribution will be conducted in conjunction with a measles vaccination campaign.

Batouri is a health district located in the East province of Cameroon at the heart of the equatorial forest. This is a rural area with an aggregate of villages and pygmy settlements. 125,000 people live here of whom 22,500 are under fives. 70% of people live under the poverty level.

This is a high risk malaria area with year round malaria transmission. Malaria is the leading cause of death in Batouri. The extreme poverty of people in this area means they cannot afford socially marketed nets.
