Distribution Strategy

How do we decide where the nets should go and which Distribution Partners we should work with?

  1. We have contact with organisations with as yet unfunded distribution proposals
  2. Our Malaria Advisory Group (MAG) assesses distribution proposals on the basis of

    1. Is the Distribution Partner credible and does it have a successful track record in bednet distribution programmes?
    2. Does the distribution programme target vulnerable groups and will it therefore have impact?

The MAG is made up of some very experienced malaria people. Two are based in London, one in Switzerland/Kenya, one in Thailand and four are based in Africa.

The locations of the MAG members bears no relation to where nets are distributed. We also liaise with others with relevant malaria expertise in many other parts of the world.

The experience of the MAG and others helps us answer a).

We ask some key questions of each proposed distribution. This helps the MAG to answer b).

To the left you can see an example of the simple form we ask those putting forward distributions to fill in.

You can see completed forms attached to each distribution.

The MAG does not meet. It does not need to. That would not be efficient. We have teleconference calls when we need to. They are usually no more than one hour long. Most of the time, the MAG, and Richard Lane, one of our Trustees, who has significant relevant experience, communicate and share views by email.

We ask all distribution partners to sign a legal agreement.

This has two key elements:

  1. We ask Distribution Partners to provide us with photographic evidence the distribution has occurred
  2. If the nets were not to be delivered for some reason, we get our (your) money back.

100% of the money we receive is used to buy long lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs).

We can achieve this as we have more than 100 companies around the world helping us pro bono (technology support, accounting support, banking etc). The few costs we do have are covered by a group of private donors. Our distribution partners pay for distribution. We hope you will agree this achieves maximum efficiency in use of your money.

This ensures we deliver on our simple promise:

  • 100% of the money buys nets
  • ...and the nets will end up over heads and beds and
  • ...and we will show that has happened
