This campaign began as an effort to help refugees in a transit center in Conakry, Guinea with whom I have been in contact since last fall. Knowing that veterinarians understand the infectious disease aspects of malaria and the tremendous impact that preventative care can have, I emailed my veterinary colleagues at the University of Missouri College of Veteirnary Medicine to enlist their help in raising money to provide nets for the 43 refugees at the transit center. Literally within 45 minutes of sending the email, I received over half of the needed funds and the rest came in over the next two days.
