Hi. We are Spiros Analytis and Maria Abagis and we are cycling against malaria. On January 12th, 2008 we will be participating in the 2008 Tour D’Afrique, a cycling Race/Expedition through Africa. The expedition starts in Cairo, Egypt and ends 4 months later in Cape Town, South Africa. The cycling will be difficult, we will be faced with many physical and mental challenges throughout this journey, but it is obviously nothing compared to the suffering and hardship brought on by malaria.
In preparation for our trip, we began reading up on Malaria and have been devastated by the staggering statistics: Over 1 million people die from malaria every year.
