His Nets
His Nets is a non-profit charity begun in 2005 to fight malaria especially in Sub-Saharan
Africa. Begun by a father and daughter following the illness and near death from
malaria of another family member while living in West Africa, as co-founder T Thomas
puts it "It is easy to be passionate about fighting malaria when you see first-hand
the consequences of this terrible yet avoidable disease".
LLIN focus
His Nets focus is distributing LLINs to those who need them most: pregnant women
and families with children under 5. In the last two years close to 6,000 nets have
been distributed in Kenya, Ghana, India and the Sudan. The target for 2007 is a
further 15,000 nets distributed primarily through clinics and hospitals in partnership
with local health organisations and groups.
Support from the community
Support and contributions have come from a number of sources. Civic groups such
as Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, public and private schools and church groups have made
donations. One major contribution came last year from a company which auctioned
off a piece of road paving equipment and gave a part of the proceeds to His Nets!
The largest portion of donations comes from individuals who support this life-saving
project, many through monthly donations.
Non-denominational
His Nets is a non-denominational organization; that is, it is not associated with
any particular church or religious movement. It makes no distinction as to ethnic
or religious origin when distributing nets to those who need them most.
