Project Concern International (PCI)
PCI, a leading health and humanitarian assistance organization, is dedicated to building healthy communities and saving the lives of children and families around the world. We reach three million people annually with programs in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
PCI’s mission is to alleviate human suffering by empowering communities to prevent disease, improve community health, and engage in sustainable development. We work on and “beyond the asphalt road”, in the world’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.
PCI utilizes a community-led, integrated approach and focuses on: community mobilization; disease prevention; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; livelihoods and economic development; food security; maternal and child health; and water and sanitation. Crosscutting strategies include human rights, gender and capacity building.
Malaria
Tackling malaria in affected communities is a fundamental element of ensuring family and community health. In many countries where PCI works malaria is the biggest killer of children under five years of age. PCI’s emphasis on integrated programming helps to ensure cost effective coverage as well as impact on people who are in great need such as women who are pregnant; those persons with malaria and HIV/AIDS and/or tuberculosis; and those at special risk following a natural or man-made disaster.
