Holy Innocents Children's Hospital Uganda, Inc.

Holy Innocents is a non-political, non-sectarian, faith-based organization based in California dedicated to building the first children's hospital in Uganda for treatment of malaria and other treatable diseases and to providing nets to prevent children from getting malaria in the first place.

We've got a great team of business people, medical professionals, students and clergy in the US, joined by a fantastic Ugandan team of doctors, nurses, clergy and other professionals.

Our mission is better health and a better life for the children of Mbarara, Uganda. When we've achieved that, we'll expand to other parts of Uganda, then other parts of Africa.

Hospital Build Programme

The build is a 5 year plan, started 2006.

Completed  We have acquired land via donation; developed a five-year plan for hospital roll-out and operation; and produced a first draft of the hospital layout.

In Process  Raising funds for building the first wing of the hospital and clinics; finalizing hospital design and construction schedule; and drawing up detailed plans for running the hospital.

Goals  Build a children's malaria hospital in Mbarara; reduce malaria deaths for children aged 0 - 5 yrs by 70% and save 35,000 lives in 5 years; Expand to full children's hospital after 2 years; deliver 150,000 mosquito nets in 3 years; raise US$2,500,000 in required funding; make hospital operationally self-sustaining from start; begin replicating program in neighboring province in 3 years.

Net Distribution

Net distributions take place from now and do not wait for the hospital to be completed. The Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara announces the availability of bednets to the general population in the target areas and arranges events to distribute the nets and teach their proper usage. Nets are also distributed via clinics in each target area to families coming to clinics seeking treatment for a child with malaria. Nets are distributed to all those in need, regardless of religious persuasion.
