Volunteers
As we grow in size we have more opportunities for volunteers to help us in a number
of different areas. In part, this is why 100% of the money we receive buys nets.
If you are interested in volunteering some of your expertise and/or time,
please let us know. Usually it is a few hours, sometimes it's a mini-project
with a definite start and end. In all cases volunteer help fits what the volunteer
can and wants to do.
The areas in which we could currently use help are listed below. If you'd like to
help in a way not listed, do get in touch: you can probably still help!
Photo selectors
We receive photos from each distribution, typically up to 100, and need to select
between 20 and 40 to illustrate the story of the distribution. We upload all the
photos from a distribution to a website and a volunteer will be given access to
select, caption and order the photos. more info (pdf)
Experience: An eye for what makes a good photo and an ability to string a
narrative together using short captions.
Video editors
We receive video footage from each distribution and edit 10-30 mins down to 90-120
seconds to tell the story of the distribution. We send out the raw footage (DVD
or digital formats) and need a good quality edit in a standard digital format (.mov,
.wmv etc). A video editing job is typically a couple of hours. more info (pdf)
Experience: This is best carried out by a (semi-)professional editor with
access to professional software and equipment and with experience in editing.
Permission to use music
The videos we generate showing nets being distributed sometimes have a background
music track added. We have identified some very good foot-tapping music and need
someone to help track down the person who can say 'yes, you can use it for free.'
Experience: None. The right person here will be a keen, resourceful individual
who can chase down the individual to contact for each of the ten tracks and ask
permission for us to use the music.
Blogging
Our information blog highlights stories and events about ourselves and the work
we do. In order to keep the blog up to date and diseminate the latest news and events
we would like people to help write blog posts. Topics or events may be suggested
to a volunteer, which they may otherwise be unaware of, or the volunteer can suggest
topics to post on.
Experience: Writing for, and engaging with, an online audience and experience
with writing blogs in particular is preferred along with a pro-active approach.
We have already had 13 professional translators, 11 video editors and many many
others in different fields donate their time and expertise.
See who has helped us so far...
