LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Pre-distribution information

All of Ghana is high risk for malaria. 3,200 nets will be distributed to children under 5 in the village of Pokuase, 15kms north of the capital, Accra.

Bednets will be distributed under the direction of Victoria Owusu, community nurse in Pokuase, during her well-baby clinics on Wednesdays at the Presbyterian Church hall and at the Pokuase Area Council Building with the help of part-time nurses and health extension workers that assist her.

Each week between 200 and 250 women gather with their infants and toddlers at the well-baby clinics and 600+ women are seen at the council building. The distribution of the nets will take one month.
