LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

In 2006, malaria resulted in 33 deaths of children under five years old in Kassena-Nankana alone. The netting distributed by Against Malaria should greatly aid in preventing future deaths.

A man gives his fingerprint as a signature of receipt of his new mosquito netting.

As recently as 2006, most of the 600 reported deaths in the Kassena-Nankana district were malaria-related. Anti-malarial netting, like that provided by Against Malaria, is expected to significantly lower this statistic.
