LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Pre-distribution information

Malaria is on the rise in India and Tamil Nadu state has some of the wost affected areas in the country. Rather than existing throughout the state, there are pockets where malaria is emerging as a significant illness.

The nets will be distributed to specific villages in the affected areas to achieve blanket coverage, meaning all villagers will sleep under a net. Blanket coverage makes it very difficult for malaria-carrying mosquitoes to find a blood meal and can reduce the incidence of malaria by between 60-90%. Such a sharp decline in malaria cases has an obvious dramatic effect on the health of a village.

20,000 nets will be distributed in 7 related distributions.
