What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Nambuma area, Dowa District is a rural area and the population of the 12 villages is about 2,500 in total.

Dowa District is not one of the highest risk malaria areas within Malawi from the data of Malaria new cases & inpatient deaths by district. However, Nambuma area is high risk malaria area within Dowa District since this area is hot and humid with wetland, which is a preferable environment for malarial mosquitoes.
