My name is Rithvik Balakrishnan, a Peace Corps Volunteer working with public health in rural Senegal and one of my projects concerns malaria prevention. The Senegalese government is handing out mosquito nets to all vulnerable groups, primarily children under 5 and pregnant women; we are targeting everybody else. Though on the open market nets cost up to $10, here they only cost $2. Since Senegalese generally share beds, this means that for the cost of a Starbucks frappacino, you can have a significant impact on multiple peoples' lives.
