ISB Against Malaria

We are a diverse, supportive, and caring community of learners committed to developing knowledgeable, open-minded, and principled global citizens. We are dedicated to understanding multiple perspectives on local and global events and issues.

Malaria is one of the leading causes of death for young children aged between one month and five years, following pneumonia and diarrhea. In 2022, approximately 608,000 people died from malaria, with children under five accounting for 76% of these deaths. This translates to nearly one child dying from malaria every minute (Sources: WHO, UNICEF).

Malaria is preventable and treatable. Prevention is often cheaper than treatment, and one of the most effective means of prevention is sleeping under an insecticide-treated mosquito net.

The Against Malaria Foundation has been rated as one of the most effective charities in the world by independent charity evaluators year after year since 2008. A net costs around $2. Every dollar spent on a malaria net is estimated to increase the GDP of the receiving country by about $6.25. Malaria nets have saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented hundreds of millions of malaria cases since 2000 (Source: GiveWell).

The International School of Busan (ISB) supports the Against Malaria Foundation Korea in their mission to prevent malaria. By working together, we aim to raise awareness and funds to provide insecticide-treated mosquito nets to those in need. Our efforts contribute to the global fight against malaria, helping to prevent unnecessary suffering and save lives.
