Blanket the Mentawais

Location Mentawai Islands, Indonesia

The Mentawai Islands are a hyper-endemic malaria area.

In the worst affected villages one quarter of the children die before reaching the age of 12 years from preventable and treatable diseases including malaria, measles, tetanus, and diarrhoea. Throughout the Mentawais, 50% of all families lose at least one child.

SurfAid is blanketing the Mentawai Islands in life-saving mosquito nets. We are working with village communities and the existing health services: the Mentawai Health Department and the Indonesia Malaria Control Board. more >>
