Distributed by YIF

Yaounde Initiative Foundation (YIF) is a not-for-profit organisation focusing on overcoming key practical constraints on socio-economic development in rural communities in Cameroon. The Foundation's goal is to improve the health and well being of communities through the control of insect vectors of human diseases, improved agricultural production and environmental protection.

LLINs

What is a Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN)?

An LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide.

The insecticide is cleverly bound within the fibres that make up the netting and is 'slow released' over a 4-5 year period. Hence 'long lasting'.

Sanaga Valley, Cameroon

Nets: 5,000 LLINs
When: Apr-May 07
Distributed by  YIF    YIF

The nets will achieve blanket coverage of a 44-village area in the Sanaga Valley with a population of 13,500.

The area is malaria endemic with 40% of children under 5 and 33% of pregnant women suffering from malaria.

YIF is introducing Vector* Intervention Teams (VITs) that work with village leaders to successfully distribute LLINs.
