In the last 20 years, since AMF began operations, more than 1.5m donations of every amount, large and small, from 250,000 of you have contributed over US$830m to the fight against malaria. We are so grateful.
As we look ahead to the funding need for the period 2027 to 2029, we estimate the funding that AMF could successfully deploy for those opportunities we have evaluated so far is a little more than US$600m. There are other material opportunities beyond this.
This need remains after considering the funding brought to bear by The Global Fund – now known following the recent completion of their three-yearly replenishment cycle – and our estimate of US Government contributions.
The two countries worst affected by malaria and most in need of funds are the Democratic Republic of Congo, ~US$300m, and Nigeria, ~US$200m. A total of six other countries need at least US$100m in funding.
We are in the process of allocating US$130 million so this brings down the gap and we expect to share shortly some significant grant news that will make a further dent in the funding need total.
As long as significant gaps remain, each one of the donations we receive matters, as every US$2 buys a net which matters very much to the two people, often a mother and baby, who are protected by it when they sleep at night. Nets are fundamental to the prevention of deaths and illness from malaria.
So, a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported, and continue to support, AMF in the way you do. Onwards to 2027 to 2029.
